According to the latest figures reported 8,078 people have died in France from the coronavirus since the beginning of the epidemic, including 5,889 in hospital and 2,189 in nursing homes and other medical-social establishments. The number of patients in intensive care stands at 6,978.

A 22 year old woman has been taken to hopsital in a ctritical condition after falling from the 5th floor of an apartment block in Nice. The accident occurred in the early hours of this morning on boulevard Raimbaldi. The woman was immediately taken to the emergency department of Pasteur. An investigation has been opened.

The prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes has prohibited walks and sporting activities in the port of Nice. Access to beaches, forests, rivers and the entire Riviera coastline had already been banned under confinement regulations. From April 3rd no more walking or jogging on the quays of the port of Nice. The whole area has been but under tougher controls due to the "persistence of a regular and significant presence of people for other reasons than their professional activity."

Following the Regional Health Agency's call on Wednesday 1st April, for medical staff from the PACA region to volunteer in those areas badly affected by the virus in France. 40 medical staff have already left to offer thier services.

The president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region Renaud Muselier has reportedly announced that part of a cargo of surgical masks destined for France has been diverted to the United States at the last minute. The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region has ordered 4 million masks from China. Over the last few weeks, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has worked tirelessly to help hundreds of thousands of British travellers get home to the UK. On Monday evening, the Foreign Secretary announced a repatriation plan for British Nationals who are currently stranded overseas and who are unable to return home due to border closures and/or because commercial options are no longer available. In these cases, the FCO, in partnership with commercial carriers, will facilitate special chartered flights to get UK Nationals back home. The Government has pledged £75 million to the effort. Vulnerable people, including the elderly and those with underlying health issues, will be given priority.
