In Valberg, thick flakes have transformed the landscape, delighting visitors who came hoping for a true winter atmosphere - and got exactly that.

With up to 30 centimetres of fresh snow expected, resort officials say it’s the best start to the season in years.

Early cold weather, combined with natural snowfall and snowmaking, has created ideal conditions on the slopes and boosted last-minute bookings.

Families, day-trippers from the Riviera and visitors from further afield are all taking advantage of the festive calm before the busiest end-of-year period.

The positive effects are being felt beyond skiing.

Restaurants and shops report rising footfall as the snow draws crowds back to the resorts.

With more snowfall forecast this week and sunshine expected later in the holidays, professionals are optimistic that the winter season is finally off to a strong and promising start.
