Daily users make up 34% of the population, with younger generations driving most adoption (85% of 18–24-year-olds have used AI).

Generative AI use outpaced the adoption speed of smartphones and the internet in similar timeframes.

Popular uses include information retrieval (73%), writing assistance (58%), content creation (42%), and programming (30%).

OpenAI’s ChatGPT remains the most widely used tool (63%).

Despite the rise, 52% of French people remain distrustful of AI, citing accuracy and data privacy concerns.

Environmental impact, particularly water consumption, is also a concern for 46% of respondents.

In international rankings, France lags behind the UK (6th) and the US (7th) in AI adoption within public service, placing 10th out of 10 countries in the Public Sector AI Adoption Index 2026.
