Alpes-Maritimes placed under orange heatwave alert as temperatures soar
The Alpes-Maritimes is under an orange heatwave alert until at least Wednesday, with temperatures reaching up to 37°C and very warm nights expected across the region.
The Alpes-Maritimes and neighbouring Var department have been placed under an orange heatwave alert from midday on Monday 22 June, as a spell of intense summer heat continues across southern France.

According to Météo-France, temperatures are expected to reach between 34°C and 37°C in parts of the region, with highs of around 32°C to 34°C along the coast and in lower-lying inland areas.
Night-time temperatures are also set to remain unusually high, particularly in Nice, where lows could stay above 26°C, offering little relief after sunset.
The orange alert is expected to remain in place until at least Wednesday, while a yellow thunderstorm warning has also been issued for Monday afternoon, mainly affecting inland and northern areas of the department.
Authorities are urging residents and visitors to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours of the day and check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
Particular caution is advised for young children, people with health conditions and those working outdoors.
The heatwave is part of a much wider episode affecting France, where temperatures have exceeded 40°C in some regions and dozens of departments have been placed under the country's highest heat warnings.
