The ruling, issued on Monday 4 May by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge, found that Pitt could not compel Jolie to hand over a series of private emails linked to the sale of her stake in the vineyard.

The court sided with Jolie, agreeing that the communications are protected by privilege.

According to legal documents cited by Page Six, Pitt had sought access to a large volume of private correspondence relating to the sale, initially requesting 126 documents before narrowing the demand to 22.

His request was ultimately rejected.

Jolie’s lawyer described the decision as an important victory, arguing that Pitt’s attempts to access confidential communications had been unjustified.

The court concluded that he had not met the legal threshold required to override claims of privilege.

However, the ruling was issued “without prejudice”, meaning the matter could potentially be revisited in future proceedings.

The Château Miraval dispute

The Château Miraval estate, located in Correns in the Var region of southern France, has been at the centre of legal conflict since the couple’s separation.

Jolie and Pitt purchased the property in 2011 for approximately 67 million US dollars (around 56 million euros), after previously renting it for several years.

The estate includes vineyards, olive groves and extensive woodland, and produces a well-known rosé wine.

The couple married there in 2014, before Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, which later triggered a series of legal disputes over ownership and business decisions linked to the estate.

In 2021, Pitt filed a lawsuit claiming Jolie had sold her stake without his consent, allegedly in breach of an agreement requiring mutual approval.

Jolie has denied the existence of such an agreement and has counter-sued, accusing Pitt of launching a retaliatory legal campaign.

The estate also includes a recording studio that has hosted major international artists over the years, adding to its cultural and commercial significance.
