The result keeps Monaco’s European campaign alive, but means they will now have to fight for progression through next month’s play-offs.

Paris Saint Germain, Inter Milan and Real Madrid are also among the major clubs whose only hopes of continuing in the competition now rest on the play-off round.

Meanwhile, five English clubs finished in the top eight of the group phase and have qualified directly for the knockout stage, avoiding the extra play-off hurdle.
