Bicycle theft - The town hall and the police of Saint Raphaël in the Var have set up a service to mark bicycles in an attempt to reduce the number of bikes stolen. Saint Raphael is the first town in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region to introduce such a service which takes 30 seconds and cost 6 euros.

2 to 3% of stolen bikes which aren’t engraved are returned to their owner, this percentage increases to 7 or 10% for ones that are.

According to véloperdu.fr, 400,000 bikes are stolen in France per year, that is to say one per minute.

100,000 are found, without being able to be returned due to lack of identification.
