In a statement released by her foundation, the 91-year-old cultural icon said she is “in convalescence” and called for “calm” as well as respect for her privacy.

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation criticised what it described as “false information” circulating in certain media outlets, after reports suggested that Bardot had been hospitalised in Toulon following surgery last month.

The foundation said these claims were inaccurate and urged restraint in the reporting of her condition.

In her message, Bardot thanked those who have shown sincere concern for her wellbeing, signing off with:

Je vous embrasse tous!

- Brigitte Bardot

The former actress stepped away from cinema in the 1970s to dedicate her life to animal welfare and has since maintained a quiet lifestyle in the Provence–Alpes–Côte d’Azur region.

She divides her time between her homes in Saint-Tropez and La Garrigue, where she looks after numerous animals.

Bardot avoids all digital devices and rarely communicates publicly, making the foundation’s statement an unusual but deliberate effort to counter unfounded speculation.
