The former Plage Macé now bears her name following a ceremony held on Monday along the Croisette.
The tribute comes months after Bardot’s death in December and recognises both her legendary film career and lifelong commitment to animal welfare.
The event was attended by her longtime companion and foundation president Bernard d’Ormale, alongside local officials and Festival representatives.
Cannes Mayor David Lisnard described the actress as “a free woman, a global icon and a defender of living beings”, while Festival delegate Thierry Frémaux recalled her lasting connection to the city and the Festival.
Photographs of Bardot’s appearances in Cannes will be permanently displayed at the beach, and a large mural celebrating her legacy is also planned elsewhere in the city.
