Polar winds will bring chilly mornings across the north, east, and centre, with overnight frosts threatening early-blooming crops and gardens.

By Saturday, highs in affected regions are expected around 5°C, about 10°C lower than last week’s warmest days.

Rain will sweep in from the Atlantic, while the south-east faces a storm with up to 80mm of rainfall and winds reaching 80 km/h.

Snow is forecast at unusually low altitudes, with areas as low as 300m in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes seeing snow, and up to 40cm at higher elevations around 1,500m.

The Massif Central could see 10–20cm.

Météo France may issue heightened weather warnings from Friday.
