Created by Sam Levinson, the series first premiered in 2019 and followed a group of teenagers navigating addiction, identity, relationships and trauma.

Over time, it became a cultural phenomenon and helped launch several of its stars, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schafer, to international fame.

A shocking finale

The final episode, titled In God We Trust, delivered several dramatic twists and major character deaths, including that of Zendaya’s Rue Bennett.

Levinson described the ending as the “honest” conclusion to Rue’s story, saying it reflected the harsh realities faced by many people struggling with addiction.

The finale also paid tribute to actor Angus Cloud, who played fan-favourite Fez and died in 2023 at the age of 25.

The end of an era

While HBO's confirmation marks the official end of the series, the news comes as little surprise.

Production on season three was delayed for several years, while many cast members became major Hollywood stars with increasingly busy schedules.

Zendaya had previously hinted that season three would likely be the show's last chapter, while Levinson recently admitted he had approached each season as though it could be the final one.

A lasting legacy

Across its three seasons, Euphoria became one of HBO’s most influential series, earning critical acclaim, multiple awards and a devoted global fanbase.

Zendaya won two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Rue, a role she has described as one of the most important of her career.

With the final episode now streaming, Euphoria officially closes the door on one of television’s defining dramas of the past decade.
