Ceremonies have been taking place in Paris to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the attacks of 13 November 2015. 132 people lost their lives and over 400 were injured in a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in the capital. The commemorations began at the Stade de France and continued at several restaurants and bars targeted by the attackers. A garden of remembrance near the town hall is being inaugurated by President Macron this evening. The bells of Notre Dame Cathedral will also be rung this evening. Flowers and candles have been laid throughout the day at the entrance to the Bataclan concert hall where many people lost their lives.
The public prosecutor has announced the dates for Nicolas Sarkosy’s appeal. The former president is appealing against his conviction for conspiracy in the alleged Libyan financing of his election campaign in 2007. The trial is scheduled to take place from March 16 to June 3 next year.
Two dozen electric vehicles have been destroyed in a fire at a car dealership near Marseille. Almost 50 firefighters attended the blaze in the parking lot of the Tesla dealer in Pennes-Mirabeau.
President Macron has announced increased funding for France's military activities in space. Speaking at the new headquarters of the French Space Command in Toulouse he said that space “has become a battlefield”. An additional 4.2 billion euros will be allocated for military space activities by 2030.
A man in his fifties has received a prison sentence for arson. The court in Nice found him guilt of having started six fires in the Paillon Valley last September. Over 250 square metres were burned in the fires but nobody was injured.
