As part of its 79th edition, the Cannes Film Festival will host a special midnight screening of The Fast and the Furious on May 13, marking 25 years since the film that launched one of cinema’s biggest global franchises.
The screening will take place at the Grand Théâtre Lumière at 11:45pm, bringing the energy of the iconic street-racing film to the Croisette for one night only, in the presence of stars including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, alongside producer Neal H. Moritz and Meadow Walker, daughter of the late Paul Walker.
Released in 2001, The Fast and the Furious introduced audiences to the underground world of street racing in Los Angeles.
What began as a high-octane action film quickly grew into a worldwide phenomenon, evolving into a saga of 11 films that has generated more than $7 billion at the global box office.
Over the years, the franchise has expanded far beyond its original concept, blending increasingly ambitious action sequences with a strong focus on loyalty and family - themes that have helped build a loyal global fanbase.
Its cast has also grown to include major names such as Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and Charlize Theron.
This special Cannes screening is both a tribute to the film that started it all and a celebration of a saga that continues to shape pop culture.
The story is far from over, with the next instalment, Fast Forever, already set for release in March 2028.
