France’s Police chief retires

France’s Police chief retires - France’s National Police chief Eric Morvan, who was notably faced with criticism in the management of law enforcement during the "yellow vests" crisis, has announced he is to retire.

Aged 62, Mr. Morvan who has been the head of the general direction of the national police (DGPN) since August 2017, announcement his departure, which was later made public by Le Point, and had been the subject of insistent rumors for several weeks within the Ministry of the Interior.

Under his leadership, the National Police had to manage several terror attacks, the criticized management of maintaining order within the framework of the "yellow vests" movement and the major wave of suicides in 2019 within the police force.

The appointment of the new director general of the police who will head some 150,000 civil servants will reportedly take place soon.
