France’s upper parliament says yes to the pension reform now the turn of the national assembly to vote this afternoon at 3pm- The upper parliament of the French government has largely said yes to the pension bill this Thursday morning. However, the situation will be much more complicated this afternoon at the National Assembly and could well lead to a 49.3. Without surprise. The French government was on fairly secure ground as right-wing senators, who have the majority with the centrists, have been supporting the retirement age at 64 in the social security budget for several years.

It is now the turn of the National Assembly to examine the pension reform at a second reading at 3pm this afternoon in a very different atmosphere for the government. Should it be rejected by the deputies then the implementation of the 49.3 is on everyone mind which would force the bill through. According to latest figures from French media, only 222 deputies are ready to vote for the reform, far from the 287 votes required.
