French minister rules out World Cup boycott despite Trump tensions

France’s sports minister says she is not considering a boycott of the men’s World Cup “at this stage”, despite political tensions involving Donald Trump.

Sports minister Marina Ferrari says she is not considering a French boycott of the men’s football World Cup “at this stage”, despite tensions linked to Donald Trump.

She said sport and politics should be kept separate, suggesting that France’s focus remains on the tournament itself.

This summer’s World Cup is being hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Ferrari’s comments come as questions have been raised about whether political tensions could have an impact on the competition.
