Fuel price surge forces Coeur du Var to cover extra waste collection costs

Rising fuel prices are putting pressure on local authorities in the Var, with the Coeur du Var community of communes agreeing to help cover additional costs faced by waste collection contractors.

During a council meeting on 15 July 2026, elected officials approved temporary agreements allowing partial compensation for companies affected by the sharp increase in diesel prices.
The rise has been linked to tensions in the Middle East, which have pushed up oil prices and increased operating costs for businesses.
One contractor, Pasini, told the community that its diesel supply costs had jumped by 23% between late February and early March, creating financial difficulties.
The local authority has agreed to take on part of the extra expense, with around €6,500 in additional costs expected initially.
The arrangement will remain in place until fuel prices stabilise, although officials warned that uncertainty could continue.
Meanwhile, Coeur du Var has also announced temporary changes to recycling centre opening hours during the heatwave.
Facilities will open from 7am to 2pm until 31 August to protect staff from extreme temperatures.
