Head of A&E at George-Pompidou Hospital Paris calls for confinement - Professor Philippe Juvin, head of A&E at the Georges-Pompidou Hospital in Paris has strongly recommended confinement.

Speaking to French media this morning he said that the coronavirus epidemic is causing "an influx of patients" into hospitals, where some resuscitation services "are already overwhelmed,"

In the Haut-Rhin, where the epidemic has spread earlier than elsewhere, "resuscitation capacities are exceeded" in Mulhouse, the Colmar hospital is experiencing "equipment shortages".

In the Paris region, "we have witnessed a doubling of the number of patients hospitalized in intensive care in three days", he added.  According to him, "there are not ten solutions, there is only one we must confine the population".

France’s Public Health Authority on Sunday reported 36 new deaths from coronavirus, taking the total to 127, and said there had been an increase of more than 1,000 cases. France is now braced for the introduction of much stricter measures to stem the spread of the virus.
