The Danish company says the bricks, the same size as traditional 2x4 pieces, contain sensors, LEDs, speakers, accelerometers and rechargeable batteries, allowing them to emit lights and sounds and respond to movement.

The bricks interact with each other, as well as with Smart Tags and Smart Minifigures, using Bluetooth—without requiring artificial intelligence, internet connection, or screens.

For example, a Smart Brick on a Lego car can react with lights and sound depending on the car’s movement.

The first sets, themed around Star Wars, will launch in March, priced between €70 and €160.

Available sets include Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing, and the Emperor’s throne lightsaber duel.

Lego says the system opens up new creative possibilities for interactive play.
