Most of its 125 residential units are now occupied, and the area continues to attract a growing number of shops and restaurants.

Newly created public spaces, including the landscaped valley, promenade and seafront walkways, have quickly become popular with both residents and visitors, helping integrate the district into the wider Larvotto–Monte-Carlo coastline.

To mark the anniversary, an exhibition by photographer Vanessa von Zitzewitz was held on Thursday, showcasing Mareterra’s architecture and its connection with the sea.

The district is also progressing on its environmental objectives.

Powered by a thalassothermic energy system and supplemented by solar installations, Mareterra holds HQE Aménagement certification and was constructed using maritime eco-design techniques.

Early ecological indicators are positive.

Marine life has expanded around the offshore structures, with biomimetic units providing new habitats for a variety of species.

A pioneering Posidonia seagrass transplant carried out as part of the project has grown by more than 25 percent over the past year.

The development has also generated around 300 permanent jobs and is contributing to Monaco’s international visibility.

Guy-Thomas Levy-Soussan, Managing Director of SAM L’Anse du Portier, said Mareterra represents “a new chapter in Monaco’s urban and environmental story,” noting that the project demonstrates how urban growth and sustainability can be combined.
