Monaco City Council steps up efforts for more sustainable catering
Monaco City Council has renewed its “Mon Restau Responsable” certification, as it continues efforts to make its institutional catering more sustainable and reduce food waste.
The certification was renewed during a public session on 10 September, with the City Council setting new targets for the next two years, including more vegetarian options and further measures to tackle waste.

Since joining the initiative, the municipal restaurant has introduced a number of changes, including a menu committee bringing together its chef and a dietitian, regular themed meals and a greater proportion of organic and locally sourced products.
Vegetarian options have also been expanded, while improvements have been made to waste sorting and raising awareness around food waste.
The City Council now plans to further develop and diversify its vegetarian offering and promote the “La Petite Boîte” scheme, which encourages diners to take away uneaten food rather than throw it away.
It will also identify a range of certified environmentally friendly cleaning products.
The measures will be accompanied by a refurbishment of the municipal restaurant’s kitchen and dining area beginning this autumn.
Around 120 meals are prepared at the restaurant each day.
Marjorie Crovetto, Deputy Mayor responsible for Quality of Life, the Environment and Sustainable Development, said providing high-quality catering that is more responsible and sustainable is now one of the City Council’s key priorities.
