The proposed programme includes Sprint Qualifying on Friday, 4 June, followed by a Sprint race on Saturday, 5 June, ahead of the traditional qualifying session and Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix.

Under the format, Formula 1 drivers would have just one free practice session on Friday before Sprint Qualifying.

The Sprint would then take place on Saturday before qualifying determines the starting grid for the main race on Sunday, 6 June.

A first for Monaco

Formula 1 introduced the Sprint format in 2021, but it has never previously been used on the streets of Monaco.

If confirmed, the change would bring an additional competitive race to the Principality on Saturday.

The potential addition comes as Formula 1 prepares to increase the number of Sprint weekends from the six included on the 2026 calendar.

The 84th Monaco Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from 3 to 6 June 2027 and is expected to open the European leg of the Formula 1 season.

However, Formula 1 and the FIA have not yet officially announced the circuits that will host Sprint events in 2027.

Monaco’s Sprint weekend therefore remains subject to formal confirmation, along with approval of the 2027 calendar by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.
