The Monaco Government has issued safety advice ahead of the partial solar eclipse on 12 August, urging people to use certified eclipse glasses and avoid looking directly at the Sun.
The Monaco Government is reminding residents to take the necessary precautions ahead of the partial solar eclipse that will be visible over the Principality on Wednesday 12 August, warning that looking directly at the Sun without proper protection can cause permanent eye damage.

The eclipse will be visible from 7:20pm to 9:10pm, with the maximum eclipse expected at around 8:25pm in Monaco and the Alpes-Maritimes.
In a public information notice, the Government stresses that observing the Sun with the naked eye, or without suitable protection, even for a brief moment, can cause irreversible damage to the retina and potentially lead to permanent vision loss.
To watch the eclipse safely, the authorities recommend using certified eclipse glasses bearing the CE mark and complying with ISO 12312-2 safety standards.
The glasses are available from opticians, pharmacies and specialist retailers.
The Government also reminds the public that ordinary sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection, regardless of how dark the lenses may be.
Parents and guardians are being urged to ensure children use appropriate eye protection while viewing the eclipse.
Anyone who experiences blurred vision, reduced eyesight or the appearance of a dark spot in their field of vision after observing the eclipse is advised to consult an ophthalmologist without delay.
