The initiative, introduced by the Superyacht Eco Association (SEA Index®), evaluates vessels not only on CO₂ emissions but also on local impacts from nitrogen oxides (NOx) and fine particulate matter (PM₂.₅).

Developed with AtmoSud and supported by the Région Sud, the certification rates yachts from one to five stars based on emissions, with advanced technologies such as hybrid propulsion, onboard batteries, and alternative fuels helping vessels achieve higher scores.

Officials say the scheme protects both the environment and public health, reflecting Monaco’s ambition to be the “Capital of Advanced Yachting” while setting a new global benchmark for sustainable yachting practices.
