Monaco’s Star Croisières responds to bankruptcy controversy - Monaco-based travel agency Star Croisières has officially declared bankruptcy, with a court hearing scheduled today, Tuesday, August 5th. At least 20 employees reportedly went unpaid in July. The crisis came to light after cruise line MSC informed customers it could no longer validate bookings through Star Croisières. Since then, clients have visited the Monte-Carlo office, now closed to the public, with a sign directing inquiries to email.

According to the company’s lawyers, the collapse stems from "deep financial imbalances inherited from the Covid-19 crisis," which severely impacted the cruise industry. Despite ongoing efforts and a potential buyout, the firm could not recover. Star Croisières says it's working with cruise companies to find solutions for affected clients.
