Monaco’s annual Monegasque language competition has attracted almost 2,000 pupils as the Principality continues efforts to preserve its linguistic heritage.
Almost 2,000 pupils across Monaco are taking part in this year’s national Monegasque language competition, as the Principality continues efforts to preserve its cultural heritage and traditional language.

A total of 1,902 students have entered the annual contest, which is organised by the Municipal Institution, the Directorate of National Education, Youth and Sports, and the National Committee of Monegasque Traditions.
The competition includes pupils from primary school through to lycée level, with both written and oral examinations testing students’ knowledge of the Monegasque language.
Written assessments are running until 13 May, while oral exams will take place between 28 May and 3 June.
First launched in 1981, the contest has become a central part of Monaco’s strategy to protect and promote its linguistic identity among younger generations.
Winners will be honoured during an official ceremony at Monaco City Hall on 17 June.
