As a heatwave continues across the south of France, concerns are growing for people sleeping rough in Nice.

They are among the most vulnerable during periods of extreme temperatures.

Charities and campaigners say many homeless people face increased risks from dehydration, exhaustion and heat-related illness, with some struggling to find shade, water and places to cool down during the hottest hours of the day.

Local volunteers have been handing out bottles of water and offering support, while campaigners are calling for more emergency measures, including additional cooling spaces and access to basic services.

The City of Nice says it has increased support during the heatwave, including water distribution, access to air-conditioned facilities and extra help through social services.

But those working on the ground say the need remains high as temperatures continue to climb.
