France has marked the 10th anniversary of the 2016 Nice terror attack with a national ceremony honouring the 86 people killed when a lorry was driven into crowds celebrating Bastille Day on the Promenade des Anglais.

President Emmanuel Macron led the commemorations in Place Masséna, paying tribute to the victims, survivors and emergency services.
In his address, he said: “Nice grieved without giving up on life,” adding that while the tragedy could never be given meaning, “we can give meaning to every 15 July that has followed.”
Macron also highlighted France’s ongoing counter-terrorism efforts, saying 16 planned attacks had been prevented since 2024, saving lives that “will never know they were saved”.
The ceremony included a minute’s silence, a flypast by the Patrouille de France, the reading of the names of the 86 victims, and tributes from victims’ families and survivors.
Children and first responders entered the square together in a symbolic act of remembrance.
Later in the evening, a drone display over the Baie des Anges was followed at 10.34pm - the exact time the attack began - by 86 blue beams of light shining into the night sky, one for each victim.
The attack on 14 July 2016 remains one of the deadliest terrorist atrocities in modern French history.
