The line, initially scheduled for completion by 2030, is now uncertain following political changes in Cagnes-sur-Mer, where the new mayor has expressed opposition to the scheme.
The situation has raised fresh doubts about whether the project will go ahead.
During a recent metropolitan council meeting, Éric Ciotti revealed that a “pharaonic” sum has already been spent by the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, even though construction has yet to begin.
The T4 line was intended to improve transport links in the western part of the Riviera, complementing existing services operated by Lignes d’Azur.
However, its future now appears uncertain, highlighting tensions between long-term infrastructure planning and local political priorities.
The potential cancellation has sparked debate over public spending, with critics questioning the use of funds on a project that may never be completed, while supporters argue the line remains essential for mobility and development in the region.
