The Opéra d’Avignon has reacted with humour after actor Timothée Chalamet suggested that ballet and opera no longer attract audiences.

The Opéra d’Avignon has responded with humour after actor Timothée Chalamet said in a recent interview that “no one cares” about ballet and opera anymore.

In a light-hearted message online, the theatre told the star it simply wanted to reassure him that audiences are still filling seats.

The actor was even invited to come and see a performance for himself.

Other institutions, including the English National Ballet, also defended the art form, pointing out that hundreds of thousands of people continue to attend shows every year.
