This extension represents a major development aimed at handling rising passenger numbers on the French Riviera.

The project adds more than 23,000 square metres of space, increasing passenger areas by over 30% and boosting the airport’s annual capacity from around 14 million to 18 million travellers.

The airport had been operating beyond its limits for several years, with over 15 million passengers recorded in 2025.

Designed by architect Stéphane Aurel, the extension includes an enlarged non-Schengen departure area, a new pier with direct access to six aircraft stands - reducing the need for buses - as well as additional check-in counters and a new baggage system, which will be brought into full use as traffic increases.

Delivered in phases, the upgrade is intended to improve passenger flow and overall comfort, particularly during busy travel periods, while maintaining the airport’s role as a key international gateway to the Riviera.

The development is also significant for Monaco, which relies heavily on Nice Airport as its main international access point, with a large share of visitors to the Principality arriving via this hub.

The project was also developed with environmental considerations in mind, built without additional land use and integrating energy-efficient solutions.
