Princess Charlène promotes Water Safety in Viareggio
Princess Charlène joined children and rescue professionals in Viareggio for Water Safety Day, ahead of this weekend’s waterbike challenge between Italy and Monaco.
Princess Charlène of Monaco travelled to Viareggio, Italy, on Wednesday 17 June to take part in Water Safety Day, an initiative organised by the Princess Charlène of Monaco Foundation to raise awareness of drowning prevention and lifesaving skills among children.

Held at Bagno Flora beach, the event brought together around 50 young participants from local leisure centres and associations for a series of practical workshops, rescue demonstrations and educational activities focused on water safety and first aid.
Led by Foundation ambassador Stéphanie Barneix alongside lifeguards, the Italian Coast Guard, the Italian Red Cross and the Italian School of Rescue Dogs (SICS), the programme taught children essential skills for staying safe in and around the water.
Princess Charlène met participants and local officials during the event, which forms part of the Foundation’s long-running mission to promote water safety through sport and education.
The day also served as a lead-up to The Crossing 2026, the 225-kilometre waterbike relay between Viareggio and Monaco taking place this weekend.
The challenge aims to raise awareness of both water safety and the protection of the Pelagos Sanctuary, one of the Mediterranean’s most important marine conservation areas.
