The singer delighted fans by performing their 2009 hit Run This Town before treating the crowd to a solo rendition of Bitch Better Have My Money.
As she took to the stage, Rihanna joked that she was "rusty" after such a long break before telling the audience: "I missed this... New York, I love you guys!"
For the performance, the 38-year-old wore a custom Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello leather outfit, complete with matching capri trousers, layered belts, sunglasses and slingback heels.
The appearance marked Rihanna's first live performance since a private concert in India in March 2024, following her headline Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2023.
Jay-Z's concert, celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt, featured several surprise guests across the evening, including Beyoncé, Usher, Pharrell Williams, Teyana Taylor and Lil Jon.
The show itself was delayed by several hours after crowd safety concerns outside the stadium prompted organisers to temporarily close the entrances.
Addressing the audience once he took to the stage, Jay-Z apologised for the delay, explaining that officials wanted to ensure everyone could enter safely before the concert began.
Despite the late start, fans were treated to a marathon set featuring more than 40 songs, with Rihanna's unexpected appearance proving to be one of the night's biggest highlights.
