Rogers became one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Kitty Foyle in 1941.
She was also famous for her on-screen partnership with Astaire, appearing alongside him in a series of song-and-dance films including Top Hat, Swing Time and The Barkleys of Broadway.
Carpenter returns to acting
The role will mark Carpenter’s first leading film role since the release of her hit Espresso in 2024.
Before becoming a major pop star, she began her career as an actress on the Disney Channel and appeared in films including The Hate U Give, Tall Girl and Emergency.
She recently won her first Emmy for executive producing and performing in The Muppet Show special on Disney+.
Carpenter will also reunite with Qualley after the actress appeared in her 2026 music video for House Tour.
Qualley will play Adele Astaire, who performed alongside her brother on Broadway and in London’s West End during the 1920s.
The film is based on Kathleen Riley’s book The Astaires: Fred And Adele.
Holland, who began his career on stage in Billy Elliot the Musical, will take on the role of Fred Astaire.
A release date for the film has not yet been announced.
