According to reports from France Inter, the new “Deudeuche” would be produced in Italy at the historic Pomigliano d’Arco plant near Naples - the long-time home of the Fiat Panda.

The project forms part of Stellantis’ wider strategy to develop affordable electric “e-cars” aimed at mass-market drivers.

While the company has not officially confirmed the 2CV nameplate, sources close to the project say the iconic Citroën model is expected to inspire the new vehicle’s design and philosophy: simple, economical and practical.

Originally launched in 1948, the 2CV became one of France’s most beloved post-war cars thanks to its minimalist engineering and unmistakable silhouette.

Production in France ended in 1988, before the final models rolled off the line in Portugal in 1990.

The future electric version is expected to reinterpret that spirit for a modern era focused on low-energy mobility and affordability.

The move also reflects the growing trend among carmakers to revive nostalgic models as EVs, following the success of vehicles such as the electric Renault 5 E-Tech and the revived Fiat 500e.

For many enthusiasts, the return of the 2CV would mark the comeback of one of the most recognizable symbols of French automotive history.
