Storm Alex victims to be remembered six years after disaster
Three commemorative ceremonies will take place on Friday, 2 October, to pay tribute to the victims of Storm Alex, six years after the storm caused extensive damage across the Vésubie and Tinée valleys.
The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Authority will honour those who lost their lives, as well as emergency workers and residents who came to the aid of communities affected by the disaster in October 2020.

The commemorations will be attended by Alpes-Maritimes Prefect Jean-Marie Girier, President of the Alpes-Maritimes Department Charles Ange Ginésy, and Nice Mayor and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Authority Éric Ciotti.
The first ceremony will begin at 11.15am at Pont Durandy, at the Statue de l’Homme Debout in Plan du Var, marking the sixth anniversary of Storm Alex.
At midday, a second tribute will be held at the memorial near the junction between Route de la Vésubie and the turn-off towards La Bollène.
It will honour firefighters Loïc Millo and Bruno Kohlhuber, who died while on duty during the storm.
The final ceremony will take place at 12.45pm at the War Memorial in Saint-Martin-Vésubie, concluding the morning of commemorations across the area.
The ceremonies will remember both the victims of Storm Alex and those who helped communities across the valleys in the aftermath of the disaster.
