Authorities in Sainte-Maxime announced on Thursday that swimming has been prohibited at Nartelle Beach, located on the eastern side of the town, as a precautionary measure following a malfunction affecting the collective sanitation system.
Water quality tests are currently being carried out to assess any potential impact on bathing conditions.
Officials expect the results on Friday, 12 June, which will determine whether the restriction can be lifted or needs to remain in place.
The closure comes just days after two beaches in nearby Saint-Tropez were temporarily shut due to separate environmental concerns, creating further disruption at the start of the summer holiday season.
Local authorities have advised residents and visitors to respect the temporary ban while investigations continue.
Updates on water quality across the Gulf of Saint-Tropez are expected once the laboratory analysis has been completed.
