Rumours intensified after reports emerged that permits had been granted to close streets around Madison Square Garden between 2 and 4 July, while the venue's public schedule has been left unusually empty during the same period.

According to several US media outlets, preparations have been underway at the iconic arena, with trucks delivering lighting equipment, stage structures, décor and other materials.

Reports also suggest guests have been instructed to follow a black-tie dress code, hand in their mobile phones on arrival and sign non-disclosure agreements.

The reported schedule includes a smaller gathering of around 100 guests on Thursday, believed to be a rehearsal dinner, followed by a larger celebration on Friday for several hundred invitees.

However, it remains unclear whether the couple will actually marry at Madison Square Garden or whether the event is simply a reception or celebration following a private ceremony elsewhere.

Neither Swift nor Kelce has commented publicly on the speculation.

New York City officials have confirmed that permits have been issued for an event around the arena, although they have not identified the organisers.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani has also made several light-hearted references to the rumours while discussing preparations for this week's heatwave, joking about "someone renting out Madison Square Garden to get married."

The guest list is also the subject of intense speculation.

Reports suggest celebrities including Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez, Sabrina Carpenter, Jack Antonoff, Suki Waterhouse and NFL figures such as George Kittle and Andy Reid could attend, although only a handful of invitations have been publicly confirmed.

Some fans believe the Madison Square Garden event could be an elaborate decoy designed to protect the couple's privacy, while others think the wedding ceremony itself may take place in a more intimate setting before a larger celebration in New York.

For now, despite weeks of rumours and mounting preparations, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have yet to confirm when, or where, they will say "I do."
