Météo-France has placed the department under yellow alerts for both thunderstorms and flooding from midday, following more than a week of hot and largely sunny conditions along the French Riviera.

Stormy showers are expected throughout much of the morning, with conditions deteriorating further during the afternoon as rain and thunderstorms spread across the entire department.

Forecasters have also warned of strong winds, with gusts of up to 45km/h possible in inland areas including Tende, Guillaumes and Puget-Théniers.

Temperatures are expected to remain relatively mild, reaching between 23°C and 24°C along the coast, although the wind may make conditions feel noticeably cooler.

A hailstorm is also forecast in parts of the Var Valley, particularly around Saint-Martin-du-Var, north of Nice.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve during the evening, with calmer and sunnier weather forecast to return on Wednesday.
