Toll motorways without barriers - The first toll motorways without barriers are to arrive in France. The A79 in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region will be the first from this Friday November 4th, allowing motorists to travel at the authorized speed, without slowing down or stopping, passing under gates equipped with cameras and sensors that will identify their vehicle. Motorists however will be expected to either, obtain a classic electronic toll badge or pay by card or cash at terminals along the motorway. The user has 72 hours to pay or could face a 90 euro fine, plus the amount of the toll. Failure to pay the fine within 60 days will see it increase to 375 euros. The move aims to save time, fuel and reduce CO2 emissions. The investment is valued at around 120 million euros.
