Tricolour flags set to increase across eastern Var communes
The Estérel Côte d’Azur Agglomération plans to expand tricolour flag displays and introduce civic education kits to strengthen regional identity and republican values.
Residents across the Estérel region can expect to see more French tricolour flags displayed in public spaces, following a decision by Estérel Côte d’Azur Agglomération to standardise street decorations across its member communes.

The move, approved during a recent council meeting, aims to harmonise the use of flags “in the interest of territorial cohesion and to affirm the values of the Republic”.
While towns such as Saint-Raphaël already feature prominent blue-white-red displays on public buildings and lampposts, neighbouring communes are now set to follow suit.
The proposal was presented by Guillaume Decard, who also serves as the agglomeration’s deputy vice-president.
Alongside the expanded flag displays, officials have approved the creation of an educational kit for Year 6 pupils (CM2).
The package will include a French flag, a tricolour pen and an illustrated booklet explaining the country’s history, symbols and republican values.
The initiative is intended to strengthen young people’s sense of civic identity and belonging.
It will be rolled out in coordination with local schools and education authorities to ensure it aligns with national teaching guidelines.
