Var placed on orange alert as thunderstorms return to the Côte d’Azur
Thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast across the Côte d’Azur and Var this Monday evening, with the Var placed under an orange weather warning.
After a largely sunny start to Monday, 24 August, conditions are expected to become increasingly unsettled later in the day.

In the Alpes-Maritimes, Météo-France has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and flooding from 9pm.
The Var will initially be under a yellow thunderstorm warning from 6pm, before this rises to orange at 9pm.
A yellow warning for heavy rain and flooding will also come into effect from 9pm, with a risk of hail and wind gusts reaching up to 80 km/h.
Despite the storms, temperatures will remain high.
Along the Côte d’Azur, highs of 31°C are expected in Menton and Antibes and temperatures could reach 32°C further inland.
In the Var, highs could reach 33°C around Brignoles and Puget-Ville.
Extra care is advised for anyone travelling this evening as conditions deteriorate.
