The public holiday commemorates the end of the Second World War in Europe on 8 May 1945 and is observed nationwide, meaning many businesses and services will operate on reduced schedules.

Most major supermarkets and shopping centres in Nice are expected to remain open, although hours may vary depending on the retailer.

Smaller independent shops are more likely to close for the day.

Public transport operator Lignes d'Azur will continue to run, but services will follow a Sunday or public holiday timetable.

Passengers are advised to check schedules in advance, particularly for early morning or late evening journeys.

Public services such as banks, post offices and administrative offices will be closed, while restaurants, cafés and tourist attractions are likely to remain open to cater for visitors and locals enjoying the day off.

Residents planning outings are encouraged to plan ahead, as reduced services and altered opening hours could affect travel and shopping plans across the city.
