ANZaC Day Commemoration
APRIL 25 - Antibes
The history of ANZAC Day can be traced back to 1916 when Australians gathered to commemorate the Fallen at the Gallipoli landings in 1915 in London and Australia. It became a national day of remembrance in Australia, New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served”. The annual ANZAC Day commemoration has taken place in Antibes on the Côte d’Azur due to the number of Antipodeans living and working around there for some time. Today, the event is organised under the umbrella of the Provence~Monaco Branch of the Royal British Legion with the support of the Mairie of Antibes, Souvenir Français and Veteran Associations, and is now known as Australian, New Zealand and Commonwealth Day.
